I never knew how easy it was to make homemade yogurt in my Instant Pot.
And ever since I’ve figured out all that you only need two ingredients — milk and yogurt — I’ve been making a batch of yogurt every week.
No added sugar.
Just gorgeous homemade yogurt everyone loves, all from your Instant Pot!
I put our Instant Pot yogurt into little jars with plastic lids so the kids can whip up parfaits in the morning. Breakfast favorites like muffins, avocado toast and Dutch Babies have to wait on days when we’ve got homemade yogurt.
For parfaits, use fresh or frozen fruit plus a handful of granola. I love Alton Brown’s granola recipe and try to have it on-hand as well.
Recipe: How to make yogurt in an instant pot
There are more advanced steps out there, but this is the VERY SIMPLEST way to make yogurt in an Instant Pot.
PrintHow to Make Yogurt in Your Instant Pot (Psst: It’s SO EASY!)
There isn’t much to this recipe BUT you need tons of time: 8 1/2 hours. Not a typo. That’s how long it takes for milk to turn into yogurt. Be advised.
Ingredients
8 cups whole milk
1/4 cup yogurt (with live cultures)
Instructions
Use the saute function to bring 8 cups of milk to a boil. (I use whole milk. You could use 2 percent. I cannot vouch for other milks.)
When the milk hits JUST boiling, use pot holders to remove the inner liner of the Instant Pot and place in an ice bath: a bowl of ice water. Turn the Instant Pot off.
Gently stir the cooling milk until it reaches 110 degrees F. Use a thermometer to be sure.
When the milk hits 110 degrees F, work quickly to scoop out 1 cup of milk. Add it to 1/4 cup of any kind of yogurt (as long as it has live cultures). Whisk the yogurt into your warm milk.
Pour the yogurt-milk mixture back into the Instant Pot.
Put the liner back in the Instant Pot. Close the lid with the steam valve shut. Set the Instant Pot on “Yogurt”, and it’ll automatically start the 8-hour mode.
At the end of the yogurt program, you’ll indeed have yogurt!
I place the yogurt into jars at this point and refrigerate. Our yogurt is always gone within a couple of days but I believe it’ll last in the fridge for two weeks.
