This was such easy fudge recipe to make that my eight-year-old tackled the whole thing herself.
That’s because it’s not just five-minute fudge.
It’s microwave fudge!
To make this simple fudge, all you do is assemble the ingredients in a glass bowl — and without even stirring — pop the whole thing in the microwave to melt. Spread it on a small baking sheet and…ta-da! Fudge.
And nope, this fudge is not nutritious.
But like our 4-ingredient chocolate-peppermint truffles, this recipe is a confidence builder. You’ve never seen a third grader beam like this one did when she mixed a whole batch of fudge into existence. With enough of these I-did-it! experiences, my hope is that she carries a love of food, cooking and eating with friends and family into her future. Long after the kitchen she cooks in is her own.
So really, this fudge is part of my master plan.
What you need to make Microwave Fudge in 5 Minutes
- 32-ounce bag powdered sugar (7-8 cups)
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (I use regular Hershey’s)
- 1 cup salted butter (2 sticks), cut into 1-2 tablespoon pieces
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cups raw walnuts, chopped or whole
- 2 tablespoons vanilla
How to make 5-Minute Fudge
Stick with me here, because when we started researching easy fudge recipes, we found a lot of wacky methods. If you want to make fudge without sweetened condensed milk, this one really works!
- Pour the powdered sugar into a large microwave-safe bowl and whisk in the cocoa powder until incorporated.
- Place the butter on top of the cocoa mixture. DO NOT STIR.
- Pour the milk on top. DO NOT STIR.
- Microwave for 5 minutes.
- Now stir until fully incorporated. We used handheld beaters to remove any lumps.
- Add the walnuts and vanilla, stirring again.
- Pour into a quarter sheet pan or a casserole dish, lined with parchment paper.
- Set for about an hour in a cool place (we used the fridge).
- Pull the sides of the parchment paper up to remove the whole slab of fudge and cut into small pieces.

Creative but not too good. We have another fudge recipe that I favor more. Ok for people who like plain old sugar out of the barrel. I tried making it without vanilla once and it was Ooogie. This is what my 2 yrs old daughter says when she doesn’t like something. lol, vanilla adds a nice touch. Try love with lemons though.

I have been making this fudge since I got my first Litton microwave in the 70’s. Its always a hit and disappears quickly. It never fails either. Sometimes I add walnuts or pecans or mini marshmallows, but the recipe is just wonderful. I’m entering it in a fudge contest on Friday.
