This recipe came from an idea for lower sugar & fat cookies and because kids like to do cut out cookies which can be sticky & messy. Have been making these with children of all ages for many years and haven’t met a child who didn’t like them – even the older kids. I find that using smaller cookie cutters is easier and more fun because they can make more. Having more than one rolling pin – even a child’s size allows for 2 or more to work . It’s also great because they don’t have to rise after cutting & they don’t stick to the counter or need flour. The shapes will change & details will be puffed out making for some fun depending on what cookie cutters are chosen ! If younger children tire before using all the dough, just roll out, spread with butter , cinnamon, and sugar. Roll up and coil in a pie pan or cut the roll into 1 ” pieces and place in muffin pans. Bake for 10 or more min – easy cinnamon rolls for hubby’s supper or breakfast. Also be sure to add the nutmeg – you can even increase the amount if you like. I put it in because our family favorite sugar cookie recipe has nutmeg in it and it makes them above average in flavor.
